Of the three types of plumed bird sceatta: ‘J’, ‘K’ and ‘L’, Metcalf suggests type ‘L’ is both the scarcest and the latest in production date (D.M. Metcalf, ‘Thrymsas and Sceattas in the Ashmolean Museum Oxford’, p. 207).
