Cnut (1016 – 1035 AD) Short Cross Type Penny; Northampton, Leofwine. 1.10g. (N. 790, S. 1159). REF: LV0EZS.

Obverse: Diademed bust left, trefoil type sceptre to left, inscription around +CNVT RECX: Reverse: Voided short cross with central circle, limbs terminating at the inscription around +LEOFPINE ON HA.

A sound example of a rare coin. A little weakness and variable toning to the obverse, but still pleasing. Reverse dies as EMC: 1013.1196 and 1013.1197 (SCBI: 13/1196 and 13/1197, Royal Collection Copenhagen). A very scarce mint for the type, very fine.
